Hi Matt,

- No the 10 litre was about as small as we could go. We had a little space, but it would fill up with nuts, food etc... You can see from this photo how tightly packed it is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bealer/5060711279/
- It shouldn't affect your aero, head on much. My body is wider than it, so it just sits behind the drag my body makes. The one thing to consider is the handling as the bike does turn differently, and dynapack vibrate/bounce around a little. You get used to it though and it didn't stop us hitting 70-80kph on some of the downhills.
- If you were going real hardcore you could go lighter. But you'd have limited food space, and your charge of clothes etc... wouldn't be much.
- Alu seat post definitely. A carbon one probably wouldn't be able to handle the load, nor have the mount tightened around it.
- For changes to the route (actually got a post coming on that)... The stages Penzance to just passed Bristol. We found those hard, still really enjoyable, my favourites actually, but it was tough work. I don't think I'd change them but worth keeping in mind. I didn't like the parts around the outskirts of the peak district. But the part I would most definitely change was when we went from Carlisle up to New Lanark. It was a nightmare. Apart from that, not much else, the routes I did avoided fast, busy roads as much as possible.

Could you have gone smaller with the 4 liter dynapak ? Was thinking about wind resistance as the 9 liter one is quite wide ?

Also did you fix the pak to your carbon seatpost or replace with an alu seat post ?

Finally really enjoyed your blog, very well put together - thanks. You described a few terrible days would you alter your route onto different / better / less exposed roads ?

Out of curiosity, are you related to the Robert Beal of New England cycling fame? If so, would you mind emailing me? I assume that by leaving my email address in this post, you can reply to it.

Thanks,
Matt
